The tropical world of Stingless bees082.tif
Jony Arce, 45 years old, lives in the village of Atena about thirty kilometers west of the capital, San José. An aficionado of the stingless bees, he practices meliponiculture as his passion. Proud of his collection of bees, he loves observing them but also goes to find the bees in the forest. Overseer on a 50-hectare coffee plantation, he does not harvest their honey. Jony has always been a farmer; he comes from a poor family and was not able to go to college. His dream was to become an agronomic engineer but he still realizes somewhat this dream by collaborating with CINAT’s programs and in sharing his passion with Edouardo, his agricultural friend who passed his passion for bees onto Jony.
